Chagford Reserves v Bradninch Town PREVIEW

It’s no secret that this season hasn’t started the way Stuart Murray would have wanted, nor have we really picked up from where we left off last season.

However, that means one thing and one things only – it’s time to put things right.

That turnaround may well already be underway after last weekends victory in the cup against a tidy Northam Lions outfit. Despite conceding three goals, Murray heaped praise on his side;

“It was a well deserved win. The players showed true grit and never allowed their heads to drop. They were fantastic and I was and still am, so proud of them.”

We did encounter a couple of injuries to add to our already pretty lengthy list of players restricted to the sidelines. Murray provided us with an update;

“Bissy, Shrews, Matt Reed, Baz and Simmo are all either out or very doubtful for Chagford.”

With so many players out, it undoubtedly means that a few players will be stepping into the fold where they will be provided with the chance to showcase their skills and hopefully, make the most of the opportunity.

We are expected to see the return of Max Cooper and Owen Buxton, though. Both of whom have been key players for the club since their arrivals from Cullompton Rangers.

So, lets take a quick look at Chagford…

They sit one place ahead of us in the table, despite having a pretty identical set of numbers – they better us on goal difference.

Last season, we traveled to the War Memorial Playing Fields a week earlier in the calendar year, when we drew 2-2. The starting eleven that day was as follows; Vincent, Birley, Sims, Vincent, Buxton, Clark, Foster, King, Nabhan, Jurewicz, Boyce. The scorers of our goals were John King and Lawrence Clark respectfully.

A couple of weeks later and we were hosting Chagford. A game in which Stuart Murray provided new signing and now current captain Zack Skinner with his first start, a decision he would soon be delighted with as Skinner scored in a 2-0 victory for the Ninch. The side that day was as follows; Biss, Birley, Carthew, Lewis, Vincent, Foster, Buxton, Reed, Skinner, King, Boyce with Clark, Shrewsberry and Sims on the bench.

So undoubtedly, we will be seeing a different eleven take to the stage this coming weekend as we make the trip down to the War Memorial Playing Fields. Let’s hope the squad selected can do the business and bring home all three points as we look to kick-start our season!
